What inspired me - to be honest I cannot remember not being interested in animals/wildlife. It is more like who inspired me ? - four people:- Desmond Morris, Johnny Morris, Gerald Durrell and Sir David Attenborough (Zoo quests etc) and as I grew up I added Alfred Russell Wallace to that list.
I remember had a 'Why and Wonder' book of reptiles that had a picture of a gaboon viper and a gila monster on the front and to this day these are two species that makes me tingle.
As I said I am a lifelong naturalist and interested in wildlife and habitats in UK and all over world. I am now lucky enough to pursue it as a career. When I was 18 mum told me to get a proper job ! so I went to work for the Health Service then Social Service and finally Probation Service - all the time taking time off to carry out surveys. Then in 1998 it all changed I left work went back to college and the rest as they say is history.
As a professional ecologist I have worked for small companies and large multidisciplinary organisations I now work for myself I am a part time lecturer in Ecology/Survey Techniques ID etc at a local college and also carry out professional ecological services - I also carry out my own research into adders and amphibians.
My professional aim is to provide pragmatic ecological advice, my personal aims is to carry on learning about the natural world every day I learn something new (Today I found out from field researchers at Fauna and Flora International that mountain gorillas 'sing' when they are happy ! love it)
The Future: I will keep watching wildlife both in the UK and abroad, one day I would like to write a scientific paper about adders or amphibians
In 2011 we went to Uganda on a family holiday and whilst we were there in Eastern Uganda I found a frog that had never been recorded in Uganda (West African Rubber Frog Phrynomantis microps) It has only been recorded twice in East Africa my record photo etc and a written account from Ethiopia. We are hoping to return next year for further exploration of the amphibians you never know what I might find - I personally think it is an area where little or no study has taken place so it is most likely under recording of species rather than new species but !!!
Like most naturalists I would love to find a new species - and I think that is what keeps us all looking !
I am fascinated by a mystery and that is why cryptozoology interests me
I hope this is what you are looking for
My very best regards

Suicide Forest in Japan-The Aokigahara Forest is the most popular site for suicides in Japan. After the novel Kuroi Jukai was published, in which a young lover commits suicide in the forest, people started taking their own lives there at a rate of 50 to 100 deaths a year. The site holds so many bodies that the Yakuza pays homeless people to sneak into the forest and rob the corpses. The authorities sweep for bodies only on an annual basis, as the forest sits at the base of Mt. Fuji and is too dense to patrol more frequently.

Torridge Community Transport Association issued a statement on Friday saying it was with ‘much regret’ it would cease trading.
A spokesman for the trustees said: “With increasing costs/overheads and declining revenue and funding across the transport sector, Torridge Community Transport Association’s (TCTA) financial position has been deteriorating for some months.
“The organisation has been working hard to try and find solutions to address this and have also worked in conjunction with their main customer, and funder, Devon County Council to try to resolve financial issues.
“Unfortunately cash flow has continued to deteriorate and it has now reached the point where further trading would make it be irresponsible and a breach of insolvency law.
“The trustees therefore have had to make a difficult decision and with much regret, to cease to trade with effect from 30 January 2014 and to instruct Bishop Fleming, Insolvency Practitioners, to assist with placing the company into liquidation.
“It is a sad end to an organisation that has provided a valuable and needed service in the Torridge community.”
TCTA is actively communicating with alternative service providers, to try to salvage some of its services for the community.
This time last year, the organisation took over the running of the Pannier Market Hopper in Bideford, which will now be operated by Beacon Bus.
The Ring & Ride service will continue but will be operated by Ilfracombe Community Transport Association. Passengers requiring the Ring & Ride service will need to telephone 01271 863630.
The spokesman added: “We are working hard to enable the continuation of the Voluntary Car Scheme, and will announce developments as soon as they are known.
“TCTA would like to take this opportunity to thank all passengers, staff and creditors for their tolerance and patience during this very difficult period.YeS not recent news but i thought i would do a little add on bit.My wife and myself and others like us used this service to get to hospital and doctors appoints now our costs have increased a journey from northam to barnstaple hospital is a lkeast 25 pounds plus one way so appointments are missed.ONE THING I DONT UNDERSTAND IS WHY NO NEW SERVICE ,NO KICK UO ,WHERE DID MONEY GO AM I THE ONLY ONE WHO WISHES TO HAVE AN ANSWER

Be cautious of the level 4 spirits who contact & chat; they may be wanting your sensitivity as a possession of their own – thinking they feel the existence of physical life again; not accepting of their own death or having to examine & see their own physical life before them as they relive the misery, hurt and pain they caused from selfish acts of greed or jealousy against another.
Ask questions directly; speak to those of the light who seek their guides to find their way; those who want to evolve & move on to another higher plane of existence – they have achieved their purpose of remaining earthbound but have lost their way or they have lost contact with their spirit guide & now reside in the darkness.
.. spirits/ghosts who still possess the human qualities of anger, greed, jealousy & material possessions will not speak directly about spirit guides or the light that they should seek … giving evasive, nonsensical answers that are irrelevant to the question as they choose to remain in the darkened physical world draining unsuspecting living beings of their energy, sensitivities and causing mischief & meaningless anger, frustration & chaos in day to day living hiding underneath the mask of communication from the spiritual realm; hunting & using an unsuspecting paranormal investigator or researcher’s eagerness to have evidence of the afterlife.
Do we ghost hunt or do the ghost hunt us?

Some archaeologists have interpreted certain Middle Paleolithic artifacts as early examples of artistic expression. The symmetry of artifacts, evidence of attention to the detail of tool shape, has led some investigators to conceive of Acheulean hand axes and especially laurel points as having been produced with a degree of artistic expression.
The Mask of La Roche-Cotard has been taken as evidence of Neanderthal figurative art, although in a period post-dating their contact with Homo sapiens. There are other claims of Middle Paleolithic sculpture, dubbed the "Venus of Tan-Tan" (before 300 kya) and the "Venus of Berekhat Ram" (250 kya). In 2002 in Blombos cave, situated in South Africa, stones were discovered engraved with grid or cross-hatch patterns, dated to some 70,000 years ago. This suggested to some researchers that early Homo sapiens were capable of abstraction and production of abstract art or symbolic art. Several archaeologists including Richard Klein of Stanford are hesitant to accept the Blombos caves as the first example of actual art.
Cryptozoology (from Greek κρυπτός, kryptos, "hidden" + zoology; literally, "study of hidden animals") is a pseudoscience involving the search for animals whose existence has not been proven. The animals cryptozoologists study are often referred to as cryptids, a term coined by John Wall in 1983. This includes looking for living examples of animals that are considered extinct, such as non-avian dinosaurs; animals whose existence lacks physical evidence but which appear in myths, legends, or are reported, such as Bigfoot and Chupacabra; and wild animals dramatically outside their normal geographic ranges, such as phantom cats (also known as Alien Big Cats).
Cryptozoology is not a recognized branch of zoology or a discipline of science. It is an example of pseudoscience because it relies heavily upon anecdotal evidence, stories and alleged sightings. The coining of the word cryptozoology is often attributed to Belgian-French zoologist Bernard Heuvelmans
